Old Street

Our Old Street Club in Islington is the first WeSwim Club. It takes place on Tuesdays 7.15-8.30pm.

It has excellent facilities and the use of two pools to meet people’s differing needs. You will be supported by our team of friendly trained volunteers, providing a safe, supportive environment to swim in.

About the centre

Ironmonger Row Baths, at 1 Norman St EC1V 3AA has fantastic disabled access to the building, changing rooms and the swimming pool.

Access

There are no steps getting into the leisure centre or from reception to the pool. Electric wheelchairs can navigate the whole way step-free.

We have dedicated use of the 15m teaching pool & 2 lanes of the main pool at Ironmonger Row Baths

The are multiple options for access, including a platform hoist with wetside chair, a chair hoist, or accessible steps. 

The depth of the teaching pool can be adjusted to a minimum of 0.9m.

There is a small viewing gallery alongside the swimming pool where family and carers can sit. 

Both pools have a water temperature of around 27-28 °C.

 

Small Pool

There is accessible shallow steps into the pool, a platform hoist, and wet side wheelchair.

Large Pool

The large pool also has platform hoist with wet side chair, and also has an arm hoist.

Changing facilities & lockers

There are men's and women's communal changing rooms, which have individual cubicles within them. There is one unisex changing area with small cubicles. There is also a separate disabled changing room with a hoist and a shower.

There is a unisex shower area by the entrance to the pool and in both the men’s and women’s changing rooms.

The lockers at Ironmonger Row Baths take a £1 coin.

Parking

There is no dedicated car park at the centre.

About the Session 

The weekly session will be held on Tuesdays from 7.15pm to 8.30pm. After your swim there will be an opportunity to chat to other swimmers and volunteers over some biscuits in the swimming pool reception.

Cost

We ask swimmers for a £2 contribution per session to help support the on-going operation of the club. If you have worries about being able to pay this on a regular basis please talk to tash@weswim.club.

The Club Team

The sessions and community at WeSwim Barbican are led by our fabulous committee. They work with a local team of friendly, enthusiastic and trained volunteers who support our swimmers in the water. The club team also act as our safeguarding officers.
