WeSwim Pool Volunteer Role

What is a Pool Volunteer?

Can you spend a couple of hours a month supporting disabled people to swim?

We are looking for volunteers to join our dynamic, upbeat, safe and inclusive clubs that bring people together through swimming.

Volunteers have two main responsibilities

  1. Helping people in the water. This could be providing physical support, encouraging their swimming stroke, adjusting floats or helping them to carry out physio exercises that they have been given. You do not need to be a qualified swimming teacher or elite swimmer yourself, we will give you the training and support you need.
This role does involve providing practical physical assistance to swimmers in and around the pool, for example offering an arm to someone who may be unsteady on poolside. If this particular role isn’t the right fit for you, we also have other ways to get involved at WeSwim, just get in touch for a chat.
  2. Help create a warm and inclusive community at the club by chatting with swimmers, welcoming new people, and helping everyone feel comfortable and included in the session. Our sessions are social spaces where people build confidence, connect with others and have a good time.

What’s in it for you?

  • Become part of a friendly team
  • Meet new people, make friendships and learn from the experiences of others
  • Feel fulfilled by spending your time having a positive impact on someone else's day

What’s involved?

  • Physically supporting swimmers in and out of the water
  • Encouraging swimmers to help them achieve their goals
  • Conversation and communication with disabled swimmers to build community

This role will suit you if:

  • You have a friendly and enthusiastic manner and enjoy working with people.
  • You are compassionate and confident talking to people from all backgrounds. You must be confident in the water, but that doesn’t mean you need to be an elite swimmer. Having some experience with disability is beneficial but not necessary.
  • We proactively support diversity, in all its forms, and welcome applicants from a wide range of backgrounds. We welcome applications from disabled people.
